Inductive pattern recognition
Inductive loops have for decades been used for vehicle monitoring. The
technique is well known and well proven. Mostly it is used for vehicle
counting, but also for monitoring speed and length.
It is also well known that signals from inductive
loops comprise more information than what is needed for calculating vehicle
speed and vehicle length. Different vehicles can give distinct signal
signatures.
Over the last few years the requests for
recognizing single vehicles and sequences of vehicles has increased. So has
the need for more accurate speed and length calculations.
Signal pattern from inductive loops can be used in
two ways. It can be used to recognize certain vehicles from one location to
another. In addition, vehicles can be classified in a more advanced way
than has been used earlier.
